How Does CBD Work for Stress?
CBD has a unique effect on stress that’s still being explored and understood through research. The internal chemical and physiological mechanisms that are responsible for stress are vast; there are a variety of factors at play, and it can be extraordinarily difficult to pinpoint the exact pathways responsible for producing a specific stress response in an individual. Many people assume that CBD and cortisol are the primary factors at work regarding stress relief. However, the truth is multiple internal systems work together synergistically to produce a stress response.
What makes CBD unique is its ability to interact and work with the vast number of central nervous system (CNS) receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS. One of the key roles of the ECS is to maintain chemical balance and homeostasis among the millions of chemical messengers in the central nervous system. Since all forms of stress are produced by an imbalance within the CNS, it is the role of CBD to either directly or indirectly influence pathways that return CNS imbalances back to a state of equilibrium.
