Back in 2016, Pennsylvania legalized medical marijuana and launched its Industrial Hemp Pilot Program. It’s one of the numerous states that decided to introduce a hemp cultivation program after the 2014 Farm Bill was passed. However, the farming of hemp was only allowed for research purposes, according to the 2014 Bill.
Finally, when the updated Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was signed into law, Pennsylvania could rewrite its laws approving hemp as an agricultural commodity. In 2019, the state submitted its hemp farming program to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), legalizing the cultivation, processing, and production of hemp and hemp-derived products for commercial purposes. State authorities are responsible for regulating all aspects of the program.
From seed procurement to crop testing, the state of Pennsylvania has carefully detailed rules about growing hemp. Moreover, there is a mandatory THC limit of 0.3%. This equates to about 1.36 grams of total THC per pound of dry hemp. Beyond that, regulations simply require residents to follow state and federal laws.
Like many commercial brands on the market, the caliber of CBD products can – and does – vary from one company to the next. The quality available on the PA market depends on several factors, such as how the hemp is processed, how the CBD is extracted from the plant, and what measures are put into place to evaluate the CBD content. Therefore, consumers need to be informed when buying products from a Pennsylvania CBD store.
A company committed to presenting high-value CBD from regulated American hemp (like we do here at PureKana) will make all the difference in terms of the overall value of your CBD experience.
